I'm not active on this game. But I've not abandoned it either. I'm working on a mini game for the same franchise that teaches me how to code interesting bosses and improve the game feel.
I'm getting similar errors with 'Shrine Maiden Shizuka Demo 2.md' using Mega EverDrive x5 with a Hyperkin MegaRetroN HD. happens in both NTSC-U, and NTSC-J. PAL results in a black screen. if you need the illegal instruction codes, let me know.
As someone who is currently tyring to create their own game with the SGDK I must say that this is really impressive espically with how you have handled the moving between maps and the fading in\out effect
One question I hoped you could answer is how did you manage to embed the web version of your game (as it is a great idea to be able to get feedback and show off oyur work)
By not using any of the checkpoints and then dying I was able to bring the Pointe Shoes and Umbrella to the upper area above the waterfall and get to the village. Not much to do in the village sadly.
Really fun game! Every inspiration you listed I can see a bit of in the game. I do have a question though - what are the fan drops from enemies for?
Thanks for your comments. The fan drops were supposed to be like in Wonder Boy 3, consumable magic attacks that you can drop on enemies. But I'm going to remove this and replace it with a trinket+slots system.
Thank you. I really like this game too, so I think I will continue it anyway. But I took a full time job, and I'm a dad, so yeah.. I lack time. A game like this requires full dedication.
Tthe development is stopped for now. I can't find a CRT with SCART in the country I live in. I can use an emulator but then it's hard to maintain compatibility with the real hardware.
Hi! I liked this project and I would like to ask one thing: ¿by defeating the first boss, what must be done to advance? after the first boss battle, the character gets stuck on the first level. Regards!!!
i have tried on both of KEGA Fusion and Gens, in either case it will get stuck after first boss. also, i found no entrance working for any buildings, then stuck again at the very east end of the town.
btw, im very happy to see new Monster World-like actrion rpg.
Could you please include some instructions on how to play the game? For one, tell people there is no attack until you get the umbrella. Is there a pause function? Is there anything after getting the umbrella? Going left or right makes you fall off a cliff...
Yep, there will be some dialogs that will explain that she wakes up without any weapon or power. There will be a pause, used to switch the magic power. There is currently nothing after getting the umbrella. Other maps have been done, but they are not linked yet to the beginning of the game.
This project is enough to turn me from a Nintendo to a SEGA fanboy. Love the design, palette choices and gameplay so far. I'm really looking forward to seeing how the game progresses!
I really like your project, I love Wonder Boy Like. The graphics and colors are well chosen, the character is endearing. A project that brings freshness to Genesis / Megadrive. I will follow this project which I hope to see successful :)
Played/Tested your game. Do really think it looks pretty nice. Bugs that tend to happen too often than not but I know it's a work in progress. Good luck with the game though, and look forward to playing more of the game later on.

If it becomes unmanageable, I could also scope it down to a more linear platformer. But I have hope that I can figure it out and do the full metroidvania experience.

Why not get a SCART to HDMI or VGA converter?
I'm a bit of a purist when it comes to old consoles, I prefer to use it on a CRT to account for overscan and get the transparency effect on water cascades.
Maybe this https://www.retrogamingcables.co.uk/Sega-Mega-Drive-2-Genesis-2-32X-%20Component... plus this https://www.retrogamingcables.co.uk/RAD2X-CABLES/Genesis-2-Megadrive-2-to-Megadr... would do the trick for my megadrive 1 to work on a YPbPr, which is the only kind of CRT we can find in Vietnam.
Then I'm really curious what kind of CRT you can find in Vietnam. You can definitely get adapters for YPbPr though.

looks like this is kinda 1 level only demo.
